With heart related hospitalizations and death rates in southwest Brooklyn at alarming levels (18.2% of residents are hospitalized annually for heart disease) Lutheran's Diagnostic Cardiology Center & Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory provides needed cardiology experts who are specially trained to detect heart disease and recommend life-saving treatment options for high risk patients. A cardiac cath procedure is a special diagnostic procedure that involves passing a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) through an artery or vein to the heart to produce high quality pictures of the heart.

In addition, Lutheran offers non-invasive testing such as nuclear and stress testing, as well as a fully monitored inpatient telemetry unit, an inpatient coronary care unit and a team of board-certified cardiologists on - call, 24-hours-a-day, 7-days a week standing ready to respond to all cardiac emergencies.

That is why Lutheran Medical Center (LMC) has partnered with The Mount Sinai Medical Center to co-operate all its cardiac programs, including:

NYCFire Department (FDNY) Emergency Angioplasty Center
LMC and its clinical partner in cardiac care, The Mount Sinai Medical Center, have received designation by the FDNY enabling it to perform emergency cardiac intervention (emergency angioplasty) on site for heart attacks. As a fully designated Center, LMC has been deemed particularly qualified to treat STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction) heart attacks – the most severe form of cardiac arrest.
