Shore Hill Housing in Bay Ridge has been in operation since 1977 with 558 rent-subsidized units for the elderly and disabled. Shore Hill is managed by Shore Road Community Services which is an affiliate corporation formed by Lutheran Medical Center. Shore Hill is funded under the New Construction/Substantial Rehabilitaion program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the subsidy, for those who qualify, is Section 8.
Shore Hill is supervised by the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal.
Under the Section 8 Program, households meeting the income requirements pay no more than 30% of their adjusted income for rent. The federal government sets the market rents and pays the difference in the form of direct subsidy to the project. The current Section 8 income guidelines are as follows: applicants can have incomes, including income from assets, of no more than $35,150.00 for one person and $40,200 for two persons. Only those qualifying for the subsidy are admitted.
Shore Hill accepts senior citizens 62 years or older, or the disabled, who can live independently in their own apartment. Of the 558 rental units 325 are studios and 233 are one bedroom.
The building staff includes a full-time manager, administrative staff, social service staff, on-site nurse, resident director of maintenance, maintenance staff and 24-hour security.
