LFHC Awarded Grant to Expand School-Based Services at SPHS

Wendy Z. Goldstein, president and CEO,
Lutheran HealthCare, speaks at the
June 27 press conference.

The Partnership for New York City, United Federation of Teachers and the New York City Council awarded a total of $600,000 in grants designed to help six public schools create strategies that will tie specific health and social services directly to the schools' students and their families.

The funds will allow LHC to continue working with Sunset Park High School where they can provide access to health and dental clinics, youth development activities, tutoring, counseling programs, health education, social services and more for both students and their families.

The June 27 press conference featured a number of key partners including UFT President Michael Mulgrew, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Partnership for New York City President Kathryn Wylde, Schools Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott and many others.

Larry K. McReynolds, executive director of the Lutheran Family Health Centers network also stated, "this is a wonderful opportunity for Lutheran HealthCare to help facilitate a true community response that supports our most vulnerable assets, our children. Kids and families need access to care and support services where they are, in schools and in their neighborhoods."
