About National Health Center Week
The second week of August each year is dedicated to recognizing the service and contributions of community, migrant, homeless and public housing health centers in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people in the U.S.
This year's theme is "Celebrating America's Health Centers: Serving Locally, Leading Nationally." This theme highlights the more than 45 year record of health centers in providing affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to all people, regardless of ability to pay. National Health Center Week 2011 also provides an opportunity to focus on the progress we have made towards fulfilling the goal of our "Access for All America" plan to provide a health care home to 30 million patients by 2015.
In order to commemorate National Health Center Week, Lutheran Family Health Centers will host a health and wellness fair on August 9. The event will feature a number of free health screenings, including glucose, glaucoma, blood pressure, dental, posture, hearing and more, as well as interactive games such as Wii Fit, and health trivia contests with exciting giveaways for the winners. Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez is set to attend and discuss the importance of medical homes like Lutheran Family Health Center.

Lutheran has partnered with MarbleRoad in a unique fundraising endeavor. The mission of MarbleRoad is to connect people who have complex illnesses with the resources they need to help them improve their lives. MarbleRoad focuses on rare or undiagnosed diseases and the needs of community health center patients who seek specialty care services not offered by their primary care providers.
On August 11 MarbleRoad will host a private art gallery showing of The Flammable Heart exhibit. Ten percent of proceeds of this showing will benefit LFHC in honor of National Health Center Week. All are welcomed to attend. Click here for more information.
