HEALTH INSPIRED ART AND FREE COMMUNITY SCREENINGS SET FOR NATIONAL HEALTH CENTER WEEK
Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez set to discuss importance of medical homes like Lutheran Family Health Centers




WHO/WHAT:
   Lutheran Family Health Centers (LFHC) commemorates National Health Center Week 2011 with two health fairs in Sunset Park and an art exhibit in Manhattan. The health and wellness fair to be held on Lutheran Lane will feature a number of free health screenings, including glucose, glaucoma, blood pressure, dental, posture, hearing and more, as well as interactive games such as Wii Fit, and health trivia contests and giveaways. The second health and wellness fair, at Rainbow Park, will feature blood pressure screening and free health information. For more information, click here or call 718-630-6161.

Additionally, LFHC has partnered with MarbleRoad, an organization that connects people who have complex illnesses with the resources they need, in a unique fundraising event. MarbleRoad will host The Flammable Heart Exhibition featuring a special private showing to highlight artists and their work inspired by health care experiences. The second week of August each year is dedicated to recognizing the service and contributions of community, migrant, homeless and public housing health centers in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people in the U.S. This year's theme is "Celebrating America's Health Centers: Serving Locally, Leading Nationally." This theme highlights the more than 45 year record of health centers in providing affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to all people, regardless of ability to pay.
