FAITH/HEALTH PARTNERSHIP SERVES CONGREGATIONS AND COMMUNITY

November 18, 2008, Brooklyn, New York…The South Brooklyn Interfaith Coalition for Health and Wellness, a faith/health partnership, was created in 2005 by an interfaith group of local clergy to positively impact the health status of their members and the wider community. Sponsored by Lutheran HealthCare's Office for Mission and Spiritual Care, the coalition works to expand health education, provide screenings, and enhance access to primary and preventative care.

With Margaret Pawelkiewicz, R.N., as the nurse coordinator, the coalition is now positioned to meet its potential in growing congregationally based health ministries. Ms. Pawelkiewicz has already begun to address health concerns through a series of health and wellness events in local congregations and recently provided flu shots in three parishes. The nurse coordinator was made possible in part by a three-year grant from the Deaconess Community of the ELCA.

To learn more about the South Brooklyn Interfaith Coalition for Health and Wellness please call Lutheran HealthCare's Margaret Pawelkiewicz, R.N., nurse coordinator, at 718-745-8520.
