LFHC RINGS NASDAQ OPENING BELL ON NATIONAL HIV TESTING DAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LUTHERAN FAMILY HEALTH CENTERS RECOGNIZED NATIONAL HIV TESTING DAY WITH RINGING OF THE NASDAQ OPENING BELL
Lutheran encourages the community to take advantage of its confidential HIV counseling and testing

July 15, 2008, Brooklyn, New York…In recognition of HIV Testing Day, Lutheran's own Larry K. McReynolds, executive director of the Lutheran Family Health Centers (LFHC), helped ring the NASDAQ stock market opening bell along with OraSure Technologies (maker of the OraQuick rapid test), the National Association for People with AIDS, and the World Conference of Mayors. The June 27 event helped to officially kick off National HIV Testing Day.

"As a result of our partnership with OraSure, more people are getting tested for HIV in a variety of new places like dentists offices, places of worship, health fairs, homeless shelters and many others," says Larry K. McReynolds, executive director of Lutheran Family Health Centers. "More importantly, the rapid test brings us one step closer to including HIV screening as a routine part of preventive care for everyone."

Testing for the HIV antibodies with the rapid test requires only a drop of blood taken from a finger prick or a simple swab of the gums. The screening test provides preliminary results within 20 minutes enabling you to find out your results during the same visit. It is over 99 percent accurate. A person can be infected with HIV but it could take as many as 10 years before they begin to show symptoms. That's why it's important to get tested as soon as possible.

The Lutheran Family Health Centers network encourages the community to take advantage of its confidential HIV counseling and testing. LFHC offers the rapid test at all nine health center sites.
