September 28, 2007, Brooklyn, New York…Lutheran Family Health Centers' Services for Older Adults celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Bay Ridge on the Move(BROM) on Thursday, September 27. State Senator Martin. J Golden and Councilman Vincent Gentile attended the celebration at Shore Hill Housing, which recognized Lutheran's continued commitment to provide seniors in the Bay Ridge community with a vital transportation service.

State Senator Golden and Councilman Gentile each acknowledged Bay Ridge on the Move and its twenty years of service with a proclamation and Councilman Gentile presented Bay Ridge on the Move with a $3000 check. A representative from Congressman Vito Fosella's office also attended the celebration.

Lutheran's transportation program, has provided more than 10,000 seniors safe and reliable transportation to neighborhood businesses, stores, restaurants, banks, religious institutions, doctor's offices and senior centers for twenty years. Lutheran's senior patients and volunteers have utilized Bay Ridge on the Move to and from the Lutheran Family Health Center's and Lutheran Medical Center.

Independence has always been vital to the seniors in the Bay Ridge community. In 1987 a need for special transportation area seniors was identified, members of the Bay Ridge Council on Aging and Lutheran partnered to create BROM. With the support of the late Assemblywoman Eileen Dugan, Bay Ridge on the Move became a reality.

Bay Ridge on the Moveoffers a fixed route and handicapped-accessible van service for seniors. The fixed route was created to ensure seniors the opportunity to attend community events, visit friends and family, attend church services and remain an active participant in the Bay Ridge community.

Today, because of programs like Lutheran's Services for Older Adults, seniors are living longer, staying healthier and are more active than ever before. The program offers seniors the opportunity to participate in educational and recreational activities such as English for Speakers of Other Languages, immigration counseling, yoga, entitlement counseling, health education, monthly trips, and arts and crafts.
