LMC'S PERIOPERATIVE NURSING CONFERENCE ATTRACTS MORE THAN 300 ATTENDEES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LMC'S PERIOPERATIVE NURSING CONFERENCE ATTRACTS MORE THAN 300 ATTENDEES
Annual event is the first large scale nursing conference completely organized and executed by a New York City hospital

October 23, 2009, Brooklyn, New York…More than 300 nurses and health professionals representing 36 health care organizations in the N.Y., N.J. and P.A. areas gathered at the Times Square Marriot for Lutheran's 2nd annual perioperative nursing conference. With the theme, "Celebrating our Unsung Heroes," this year's conference started off with a salute to military nurses serving at home and abroad by the Fort Hamilton Honor Guard who presented the colors. An "Unsung Hero" award was presented to Rosanne Raso, R.N., chief nursing officer at Lutheran Medical Center on behalf of nurse's everywhere; it topped off the opening ceremony.

This year's keynote speaker Terry Hawkins, CSP is one of the most sought after and most booked speakers in Australia. Terry dazzled the attendees with her motivational teambuilding and leadership workshops. The conference is designed for registered professional nurses, surgical technologists and other health care providers and featured a number of guest speakers including William Duffy, R.N., Maria E. Stilson, R.N., Rosanne Raso, R.N., Sandra Nin, R.N., Agnes Cappabianca, R.N., Kathy Lang, R.N., Bradley Eaton, R.N., and Kathleen Capitulo, R.N., and Rashmi Sharma, M.D.

The fun spilled over to the exhibit hall where the participants were able to experience a taping of "The Paula Show," (aka Paula Donaldson, R.N.), where attendees were interviewed and given the opportunity to discuss nursing issues, what they learned at the conference, and a variety of other topics.

Back by popular Demand was a nursing version of Family Feud with guest contestants dressed up in 70's classic clothes and Jose Hernandez, R.N., and Paula Donaldson, R.N., as co-hosts. The game featured health care and nursing based topics. The entertaining, but educational experience, helped hammer home the tremendously important messages of the workshop: proven best practices, teambuilding and collaboration.

The event wrapped up with a special nursing rendition of Tina Turner's Proud Mary performed by Paula Donaldson, R.N., as headliner and Susan Fedele, supervisor, Dianna Norman, R.N., and Amelia Piccione, R.N., as back up singers. The grand finale helped complete a full day of "Celebrating our Unsung Heroes" and was a true mind, body and spirit re-energizing experience for all.
