LUTHERAN AMERICORPS VOLUNTEER CROWNED MISS MANHATTAN
Set to compete in statewide Miss New York pageant in Albany this Saturday, June 27

June 24, 2009, Brooklyn, New York…Inga Schlingmann, a full time AmeriCorps member with the Lutheran Family Health Centers, was recently crowned as Miss Manhattan.

Inga currently serves as a doula and lactation aid with the Lutheran's Sunset Park Community HealthCorps team. She recently graduated from New York University where she was pre-med, majored in art history, and minored in chemistry and psychology. After graduating, she decided to give back to her community and joined AmeriCorps, a national service program where members devote a full year to community service type activities. Her platform for the pageant coincides with her work as an AmeriCorps member and helping to improve infant mortality rates in the U.S. Inga will be competing in the Miss New York pageant in Albany on Saturday, June 27.

The Sunset Park Community HealthCorps team, sponsored by Lutheran Family Health Centers, currently has 15 full time AmeriCorps members focused on meeting the health needs of Sunset Park and adjacent communities. If you would like to learn more about the program or how to apply, please contact Heidi Sabers at 718-630-7164.
