Audrey Saitta, M.D., selected as chair of Radiation Oncology

July 5, 2007, Brooklyn, NY…Lutheran Medical Center (LMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Audrey Saitta, M.D., as chair of Radiation Oncology. With more than 13 years of experience, Saitta comes to LMC with expertise in all areas of general radiation oncology with specific interest in gynecological and breast cancers.

Most recently, Saitta was the chief of Radiation Oncology at the Brooklyn Campus of the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System and is currently an active teaching professor at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Prior to that, she served in Lutheran's Department of Radiation Oncology as a senior attending physician.

As a board-certified physician in radiation oncology, she is a member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the American Medical Association and many others. Saitta received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and a bachelor of science degree in biology from St. John's University where she graduated summa cum laude. Since 2003 she has been active in Lutheran's Tumor and Gynecological Tumor Boards where a multidisciplinary team of LMC physicians examine new cancer diagnoses and threats in New York. This allows physicians to facilitate the most comprehensive and high quality care possible.

Saitta was born in Bologna, Italy, and is a lifelong Brooklyn resident where she lives with her husband and three children. She is an active member of her community participating with the American Italian Coalition of Organizations and she is a regular in the annual Columbus Day Parade.

LMC provides the most technologically advanced intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), a cutting edge form of external beam therapy. Additionally, patients have access to conventional external beam treatments and 3D radiotherapy. The department's brachytherapy program treats many forms of cancers including prostate and gynecological malignancies.
