Subheading Charity Care: A Commitment to Help

Lutheran HealthCare takes pride in its long history of commitment and care for its community. In keeping with our mission, our health care system provides assistance to patients with limited financial means to pay for their hospital care. Assistance is provided to all patients classified as financially or medically indigent who present themselves for care at any Lutheran HealthCare site, without regard to race, creed, color, sex, age, religion, sexual orientation or national origin. It is the policy of Lutheran HealthCare to provide financial assistance or charity care to patients requiring medically necessary treatment after exhausting all other sources of payment or financial assistance.

"Charity Care" financial aid is a program established under state law that requires hospitals to provide medical care for free or at a reduced cost if one is not able to pay fully for the services received. Charity Care covers services received from a hospital, whether on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Charity care is provided to patients with a demonstrated inability to pay.

Lutheran staff are available to help any patient who has concerns about his or her health coverage or lack of coverage. Fear of a hospital bill should not stop individuals from seeking needed health services. Lutheran HealthCare will work with any patient to find the most appropriate solution based on income, assets and needs, but requires the patient's cooperation to determine financial status. The most accurate information will help hospital staff to provide the best solution for our patients' financial needs.

Disclosure Requirement

Lutheran HealthCare may reserve the right to revoke financial assistance if it determines a patient has knowingly misrepresented his or her financial condition, number of dependents or any other information necessary to determine financial status for purposes of this policy. Lutheran HealthCare reserves the right to extend or deny financial assistance to patients for other administrative, legal or philanthropic reasons. Lutheran Medical Center will not deny or extend financial assistance on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, age, religion, sexual orientation or national origin.
